2020, the year that wasn’t. Many Australians feel like they have been under siege since Christmas 2019 (and much longer in some parts of the country). For us, the hardship started with the most devastating bushfires many have ever experienced, including parts of the beautiful Victorian High Country – our home.
The fires directly impacted regional communities across Australia who witnessed the destruction of their homes and businesses. We were lucky to escape damage ourselves, but so many in our community were not so fortunate. Then followed a global pandemic that put the world on an uncertain pause, further affecting businesses and livelihoods through the sudden and significant drop in tourism. For us, what would normally be the busiest time of the year in the High Country turned into the quietest. With no tourists to directly support the businesses at the Milawa Cheese site, we really felt the pinch during these trying times. However, we were blown away by the support from our amazing community!

Sam and Helen at Cheese Therapy helped get our product moving again through the Milawa Cheese Pack, sent out across the country. Cheese Therapy became an overnight success by offering a Therapy Box of Australian cheese in support of local makers impacted first by bushfires and then, the coronavirus. They also offered international cheese packs and ‘select your own’ packs, all delivered to your door, across Australia. We’re pleased to say we’ve been one of their most popular offerings, and we’ve loved seeing our cheeses appearing in your homes right across the country.

We also wanted to say a HUGE thank you to all of our supporters during 2020. Whether it’s been through visits to the shop (for those of you who could make it, masks and all!), by seeking out our stockists, or by purchasing the Helping Hand Milawa cheese pack from Cheese Therapy, you’ve all made such a difference during these trying times. We even had some famous faces swing by to support us last year – Jane Bunn from Channel 7 Melbourne and former Masterchef judge, Gary Mehigan!
We can honestly say that without your continued support, we wouldn’t still be here doing what we love: making and sharing the gift of CHEESE! Thank you all from the bottom of our cheese-shaped hearts. Here’s cheers to more hopeful times in 2021!
