The golden rind. The rich, almost smoky flavour. The soft interior that wins medals and wins hearts. King River gold was one of the first cheeses we made and it’s easy to see why he’s become our most popular, most awarded cheese. He’s bold and savoury yet buttery - a great introduction to the washed rind style. Sometimes salt forms on his rind which gives him extra grit - but he’s a big softie at heart. We give him the royal treatment: he’s washed by hand regularly to inhibit mould growth and encourage a bacteria called Brevi Bacterium Linens to grow. This gives him his lovely golden rind and stinky (we like to say distinctive) aroma. He’s perfectly paired with a sweet wine. Our King was born to rule your cheeseboard.

Our King River Gold is also an award-winner. We don't have space to list all the medals this delightful cheese has won, but so far this year it has won gold at the 2023 Dairy Industry Association of Australia (Vic) competition, and silver at both the 2023 Royal Queensland show and the 2023 Perth Royal Food Awards.
